LATEST NEWS - The current (August/September 2010) issue of Vines Magazine has an article on our winemaker, Kimball Lacey. Also, we're pleased to announce that our 2008 Baco Noir and our 2009 Gewurztraminer both took Bronze medals in this year's Artevino competition. You can now get Lacey Estates award-winning Baco Noir at East and Main Bistro in Wellington and Blumen Restaurant in Picton.
The quality of our handcrafted wines starts in the vineyard with our committment to offering terrior-inspired wines. This embodies the essence of our winemaking philosophy, which is passionately rooted in the heart and soul. - Kimball Lacey, Winemaker
It was Charles and Mollie Lacey's dream to own their own winery. They first purchased a house and some land in Prince Edward County in the '80s with the intention of retiring there and later added the land beside them, where their dream would come true after Charles and his son Kimball attended a grape seminar at one of the local wineries.
From then on it was full steam ahead as family members Liz Lacey, Andrew and Cynthia Gray and Lisa Lacey Liscoumb joined in, and in 2003 the first vines were planted. More vines followed over the next few years, and today Lacey Estates has about 8,000 vines growing. In 2008 we opened the winery, and have never looked back. Our wines have not only received critical acclaim from noted wine writers such as Tony Aspler, David Lawrason, Michael Pinkus and Patricia Dinsmore, but have also gotten rave reviews from our customers.
Our wines are 100 per cent estate-grown, all from our own vines. We currently have 8 acres under vine, and we're growing Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Baco Noir and Pinot Noir. Our soil is Hiller Clay Loam which, we believe, is one of the best soil types for growing wine grapes.
